Hey United Airlines, thanks for the call today letting me know that Paul’s flight in Beijing was on time. That was great.

The thing is, there isn’t a lot I can do about it here in The States, and then there’s the little detail that you woke me up…because it was ONE IN THE MORNING!

I awoke at five this morning to the sound of Eden crashing into Paul’s nightstand as she fell out of our bed,  into which she crawled last night when Christopher accidentally triggered the house alarm as he opened up the back door to take some pictures of the moon…at midnight.

He had asked permission to use my camera and to take the picture.
I had just crawled into bed and, completely exhausted, said he could, forgetting I had just set the alarm.
People really ought to be filming us, but I am so grateful they aren’t.

It’s been a long week.  Lydia started a new school too – sixth grade.  It hasn’t been easy being the new kid and being her mom hasn’t been a cake walk either.  I haven’t blogged, because it takes time getting up early, packing lunches, waiting for buses, driving Kindergartners to school, neducating homeschoolers, praying on the hour for lonely girls, rejecting plans to beat up would be mean girls and such.

We’re tired.
All of us are seeking comfort and rest in our own particular way:  Eden and Christopher are playing Star Wars Legos on the Wii, Lydia is baking and Paul and I are lounging on our bed laptops propped on our legs.
“Are we being terrible parents?”  I asked Paul.
He paused from his typing for a second to mumble, “No.”
He didn’t recommend taking the long view here, but it was implied.

1/2 Birthday

July 25, 2008 by Alison Hodgson Leave a Comment

Well Eden’s 1/2 birthday or “fake birthday” as Torey called it is almost over.  She had a wonderful party.  Normally Paul and I double team for parties, but he wasn’t able to come home and I hadn’t expected him to, but he was missed.  Torey was here, but she was busy with Willa Z. who was refusing a nap.

When Paul got home from work he offered to take all the hellions (including Ren who is having a sleep over) to McDonald’s for dinner so I could decompress.  I said whoopee thank you and passed out as soon as they left.  I haven’t left our bed since.  I’m contemplating one last foray to get the Legumes in bed, but I don’t know if I have what it takes.

Day 12 – Not over yet!

March 5, 2008 by Alison Hodgson Leave a Comment

Eden and I are both sporting name tags that she made out of post it notes.  I had to spell my names for her.  She wanted all of them.  I dropped my original middle name (9 letters) and gave her my maiden one (5 letters) instead.  Three names took some serious time.  She can’t write all her letters, so I had to make her a little template several times.

She was satisfied with only her first name for her name tag and has placed it on Jack’s ear because she doesn’t want him to forget her.  He’s passed out on the floor.
Oh now she is wanting to make one for him.
You might have noticed that the only creature who ISN’T stirring is the dog.
This might be a cry for help.
