Day of Reckoning

December 3, 2007 by Alison Hodgson 3 Comments

My mother-in-law is on her way with a broom and an overnight bag. She is planning to stay and help me clean until Paul returns tomorrow night.

I really don’t know what to say. I’m not able to describe to you the force that is being unleashed in my home. Picture Atila the Hun.

Am I frightened?

Yes.

This is me girding up my loins.

I am going to go free base some Vitamin B.

The good news is that any of you will soon be able (and welcome!) to have surgery performed on any surface of my home.

This might be my last post.

These pretty much say it all. Please note the dog in the kennel in this last one.

Today thus far

September 5, 2007 by Alison Hodgson 1 Comment

Have done:

Awoke to sinus pain at 2 a.m.

Read a book until some time after 5 a.m.

Passed out again

Crawled out of bed at 8 a.m.

Rescued two toads from the love of the Bean

Taught school

Made a run to the pharmacy to get meds for allergies

Commanded everyone to wear shoes whilst in the construction zone

Removed the last of the cedar shakes

Had a long phone call regarding a ministry for which I volunteer

Busted up a brawl between the homeschoolers that broke out while I was on the phone

Gave First Aid to a Bean who slipped off her shoes and sliced her toe in all the excitement.

Negotiated peace between the warring parties

To do:

Take a Bean to the doctor for a tetanus shot

Go to the library

Shop for groceries

Make dinner

Workout

Launder all of our laundry

Pick up the dining room and our bedroom

Walk the dog

Sleep through the stinking night

Three Things Thursday

May 10, 2007 by Alison Hodgson Leave a Comment

We just got back from a giant play date at the park. Paul is at work and Lydia is at Torey’s. The rest of of are amusing ourselves appropriately – something we strive to do every day.

1. Eden is sitting on a chair eating a double stuff Oreo. Her tongue is black.

2. Jack is lying on the floor chewing peacefully on a pig’s ear.

3. Christopher is sitting on the couch doing a little writing assignment.

This is old news. In the time it took me to write the above Eden got up to wash her hands. The water has been running a long time. Christopher began a raucous game with Jack who is now eating his homework.

I’ve heard from several sources that our home has the volume/pandemonium level of homes with a dozen children. We are impressive.

As the dog is barking for no apparent reason, I’m asking myself, “Why didn’t we add this to the milieu sooner?”
