Hola Amigos!

You can’t hear it, but this is a little girl learning Spanish. VERY LOUDLY. She is playing a CD I bought her called “Hola Amigo.” There are 16 songs, sung once in English, then again in Spanish. The Bean takes her Spanish very seriously. One of her favorites is called “Special” or “Especiale” She had a big disappointment this morning and needed the fortification of hearing, “Special, special, I’m as special as can be…” Twice.

Once encouraged, she decided to keep going. I can’t take much more…at least at this volume.

Today is our 14th anniversary.

As Paul has been traveling so much and it’s Monday, we are going out for dinner “all family of us.” You can read the account of the last anniversary I blogged about here.

Paul just returned from a ten day trip a week ago, but was scheduled to depart for an eleven day trip this Wednesday. For those who have a little trouble with the numbers, that’s 21 days gone between Thanksgiving and Christmas, i.e., Too. Much. The first trip went really smoothly, in no little part to the fact that my sister is a saint. She had one of my kids at her house almost constantly. I was trying to be a brave little soldier about the next trip, but only Paul can tell you if I was succeeding. (Let’s discount crying, OK?)

This morning Paul called me to say that the Vietnam portion of this trip is being postponed until January. This means that instead of flying out this Wednesday and returning eleven days later, he’ll be flying out next Tuesday and returning the following Friday – a four day trip, which is just about the nicest anniversary present ever.

My gift to him is that I won’t worry about how the postponed trip and the South American trip that is tentatively scheduled for January are going to work out with Eden’s birthday and the birth of Torey’s baby (when I plan to help her a lot), let alone think about the big trip projected for February and March. Tomorrow and January and so on will take care of themselves.

Today, I am going to celebrate.

The other day Ren and Eden were playing. Eden was being Ren’s puppy.

“Diamond Flower! Come here, Girl!” Ren called.

“I. Don’t. Like. That. Name!” Eden said in her own voice. When a Legume breaks character she is NOT messing around.

Ren knew she needed to act fast, “How about Ruby Of The World And Treasure Of Everything?”

Eden perked up immediately, “Ruff! Ruff! Ruff! I said, ‘Yep! That’s it! That’s my name!'”

I like miniature houses. This is an advent calendar that you fill with candy. I would have died of happiness to have had this as a kid. Although I bought it in time to start on the 1st, I didn’t get around to putting it together until tonight. Sue me.

Eden helped me and we had a really good time. She was got crazy with the glue although she was trying very hard to be careful. “I’m so sorry!” she said the first time she got out of control, “I put it on a little thick, didn’t I?” I was able to assure her that it was no big deal, just an accident and those happen some times. And then I helped her wipe up the excess glue. We had a lot of fun.
After she went to bed I pulled out the candy and filled the openings. Paul helped…himself.
