“39…for the first time”

October 2, 2007 by Alison Hodgson 10 Comments

That’s what Paul’s says whenever he’s asked how old he’ll be this year.

What is he doing? You might be wondering. This, my dear friends, is a Grade A example of “Flower Face.” Often, when one of has been sweet or is feeling sheepish or shyly proud, the other one will command the one with all the feelings to, “Make a flower face.”

We don’t get out a lot.

My intention was to post of picture that showed Paul as the handsome, dignified man, he is,but (at least on Photobooth and without me) there were none to be found. People who don’t drop their cameras and people who do drop their cameras and then replace them, don’t face these sorts of challenges. Clearly I’m not those kind of people.

Happy Birthday, my wonderful nut, many, many more.

I love this picture of Christopher. It was taken when Paul was in Taiwan last month. Almost every night Christopher slept on the floor at the foot of my bed, “So that you can have company.” The girls would get up in the morning, come into my room and wake him up too. They would climb in with me and we would talk together before getting up.

My window faces east so I get that soft and lovely morning light. When my kids are lit by it with their faces crushed and their hair all tousled from sleep I almost can’t take their beauty. I wish I could see them like that all day.

I hesitated to post this before because I don’t like the way I look in it, but I’m at a point that I don’t want to hold back sharing my kids’ beauty because it might reveal my awkwardness or what I consider my own ugliness.

For those of you with Macs who, inspired by my photography, were thinking about ditching your other cameras and relying on Photobooth alone, I can’t say I endorse that move. See: photo above.

Today we officially opened the pool. To make it fun I tied streamers from the ladder to a post in the fence about ten feet away. They hung across the shallow end, a seeming gateway to the pool. Not having a giant pair of scissors about the place, I grabbed my hedge trimmers and all the kids held on, eager to cut the streamers and open the 2007 Swim Season. It was very funny and the kids were ecstatic.

The thing is, the sun was shining so I couldn’t see Jack and I’m not just talking about the dog. I got everything framed up, but forgot to get the mouse positioned on the camera icon. By the time I got it there and clicked, the kids had cut the streamers.

It’s not a big deal. I mean this is still a nice picture if you don’t mind it being a little blurry, taken too late and with my hat and arm in the corner. I’m just saying if you own other cameras, you might want to hold on to them.

OK, so I didn’t buy the digital camera. The one I was planning to purchase got mixed reviews. My second choice is a little bulky. I might need to expand my search.
Saturday, the Bean and I were out and about with Torey and the Peanut. The two Legumes, were walking hand in hand, talking a blue streak. “I can’t believe I left my camera at home.” Torey said. “And I didn’t bring my laptop.” I said, snapping my fingers. She burst out laughing and made me give her a high five. Making Paul or one of my siblings laugh hard is a gold star on my chart.
Jack is a busy boy and a tease. He likes to strike a pose and then dash right before the shot.

TGIF

Here we are trying to take a nice family picture. Christopher is on his mark. Lydia is offstage fluffing her hair or something. Eden seems to be feeling disenfranchised for one reason or another which may have motivated her next move which was to get up and tap the laptop.

I was concerned.
Having been encouraged to come back in the picture, she jumped at us and hit the wall.

Here she is working through the pain.

Paul is due home in 5 minutes, not that I am counting or anything, which is really a miracle as this has been one of those days that the OCD would flair up in anyone.
