Do you know how much I love you?  Is a question I frequently ask Eden and then answer in silly superlatives.  At times, usually when I am tucking her in bed, she will ask me back, but it isn’t every time, so that when she does it is sweet.

Driving home from school today I asked her and then told her, but I can’t remember exactly what I said.
“Do you know how much I love you?  She asked.
I didn’t.
“I love you one hundred, thousand, infinity, googol specks of dust.”
“Specks of love dust?”  I asked.
“Yes.”  She said and then I heard her whisper, “infinity”.
“Infinity”  I whispered back.

Reunited!

And it feels so good…except for the searing envy Eden has for Rennie’s Littlest Pet Shop Christmas present.

We’re working on it.

We decorated the tree this afternoon and evening.  It was a relaxed and lazy day.  We had ice cream for dinner and then Christopher made up a couple bowls of popcorn to munch on while they watched a Christmas video.  Lydia and Eden doubled up in one of the chairs to share a bowl.  I glanced over at them, Eden perched on Lydia’s lap, Lydia’s arm around her, patting her leg lovingly like I do and was struck by how sweet and sisterly they looked.
Lydia is only eleven, but at 5′ 5″ and gaining, she is looking more and more like a young lady and she has always been an old soul.  Eden is almost six and getting so big, but is still little and definitely the baby of our family.    At this stage the five and a half years between them is so vast.  Looking at them this evening I imagined them both grown, perhaps with children of their own, the years between them nothing at all.
I wanted to take a picture of them together, as they are today, a big and little sister, but Paul is away with our camera.  And then I remembered Photobooth and took the photo above.

At the Lake

October 23, 2008 by Alison Hodgson 1 Comment

We’ve been at a cottage on Lake Michigan all week.  It’s been chill: the weather and our mood, which I hope means relaxed, because it is.

We are happy and well.  It’s good to get away from home and be together in a different place and way.
Last night, all of us sitting in the living room eating chocolates and reading, Eden piped up, “THIS is what I call a good time.”
You and me both, sister.

A Couple of Kindergarteners

October 6, 2008 by Alison Hodgson 1 Comment

This was taken just a month ago, the evening before the girls’ first day of school.  I asked them to show me their “Kindergarten smiles”.

And they certainly did.
They are doing well and yet both of them want to drop out.  Eden prefers to stay at home and Ren has been disappointed to discover that school’s not as fun as she imagined.
I don’t think there is a word big enough to describe how I feel about these girls, but adore is a good place to start.
