Three Things Thursday

June 15, 2006 by Alison Hodgson 6 Comments

1. Despite the fact that I now exercise four times a week, eat “sensibly”, take supplements and am cute and fun to be with, I have high cholesterol.

2. It is considered “moderately” high. I won’t bore you with the numbers.

3. Talking to the nurse I asked what I needed to avoid in my diet. Any of the things mentioned I don’t eat in excess as it is. I relayed what I had been told to Paul and asked if I was missing something.

“What about chocolate?” He asked.

I didn’t say anything because the only appropriate response was profane.

Cute and fun to be with really ought to count for something; you’re right.

So what do you need to do to bring it down? Start eating bowl after bowl of Cheerios and oatmeal?

I didn’t feel like qualifying “cute and fun” although they definitely need it. But even a little should count for something.

I used to eat oatmeal but since I it without sugar I switched to Grapenuts. Grapenuts for goodness sake! In my youth I once compared it to dog food.

I am going to take Niacin and Fish Oils and really tweek my diet.

The thing is I have lost almost all my excess weight by eating moderately without getting completely deprivational and mental. I don’t want to tweak anything. I am to avoid red meats which are 1/4 of my summer menu. We don’t eat much through the year except in the summer.

    Hello grilled chicken…

I need to counteract all the whining: I am grateful for excellent medical care, plenty of food, lots of choices and a body that works and functions…and now needs some special considerations.

And as to the chocolate…it’s time to go dark, sister.

Ease into it, gradually kicking up the cocoa content. Dark chocolate is GOOD for you!

Dan, I know. It’s dark chocolate and red wine every day!

I’m telling anyone who has ears to hear and mouths to eat.

I’ll have to try that, Torey. For me, it’s Sharffen Berger dark with cocoa nibs. It’s like a grown up Crunch bar. Tasty!
