November

November 9, 2005 by Alison Hodgson 3 Comments

It is very cold and windy here today and grey – dark. It is the sort of day that can only be justified by having a good cup of coffee and a donut. Sadly I am fresh out of donuts and am in some sort of coffee slump.

I have made a cup of St. John’s Wort tea that is steeping as I write. A very sprightly looking man named Yogi Bhajan (pictured on the side of the box) assures me he created this healing formula to serve me: body, mind and spirit.

I will keep you posted.

FYI

November 8, 2005 by Alison Hodgson 5 Comments

C. Riley loves to make signs and post them on his door.

A sampling from the last couple of days:

“I need some privacy. thank you.”

Another had a picture of someone on their knees, looking nude and a little worried, with the international sign for NO over him and the verbage underneath said, “And this means YOU!” I was a little concerned until I found out it was a No Babies Allowed sign specifically directed at a baby who was visiting last night.

At the moment he is working on one that says, “No naked people allowed, except me.”

So there you go.

You’ve been warned.

Oh Brother(s and Sisters) Where Art Thou?

November 8, 2005 by Alison Hodgson 6 Comments

Where is the love?

I post about my little boy (Did I mention he’s deaf?) and tell you about his visual impairment and my concerns therein, but does my cyber community rally around me in my time of need?

No.

All I’m hearing is crickets.

True, that is a very peaceful sound if they are real, but metaphorical crickets rub a mournful dirge.

………………………………

The father says, “I think he looks cute and I’m not just saying that because I read your post.”

I think he looks cute too, like a cute kid in slightly old ladyish glasses.

Uncertain

I shouldn’t even be taking the time to write this. (more later)

We picked up C. Riley’s new glasses today and I just don’t know. He either looks like a hipster or a little boy who stole some old lady’s glasses. Really can’t be sure. If you have the pleasure of seeing him in person I do NOT want feedback.

This is what I want to hear, “Oh hipster all the way! Totally. I mean it. Really. So cute.”

I canNOT take it if my little boy looks like he got his glasses out of the veterans’ box.

I have been telling him he looks cool. He just nodded and smiled like any king when offered fealty due him.

We gave a lady a ride to the doctor’s and she raved about them as if she knew what she was SUPPOSED to say. She is not an old lady and a bit of a hipster herself…

I’ll let you know what others say who don’t have the script.

Overheard at the Watercooler

November 7, 2005 by Alison Hodgson 6 Comments

“If you don’t show me what is in your hands I will not play with you later.”

Birdie’s hands didn’t budge.

“Very well,” C. Riley sighed heavily with regret, “I will not play with you.”

………………………….

“Mom, after I am done with my grammar may I resume the operation on Ginger?”

………………………….

After refusing a piece of ham that her brother happily gobbled, Birdie muttered, “He is such a carnivore!”

…………………………

“Very well” “resume” “carnivore”

Sometimes my colleagues crack me up.
