Einstein’s Protege
Over the weekend we realized that Christopher was running on his last package of batteries for the processor that enables his cochlear implant. He uses a very special high powered battery that is made in Germany which we order through Cochlear Corporation. When I placed my order online Monday night he had batteries in that we expected to die some time Tuesday and an extra set which usually last a little over 48 hours. They began to beep – indicating low life – a little while ago. The six month supply I ordered Monday should arrive today.
We are in a race again time.
All of us (Me, my colleagues, Torey and her daughter, Ren) were driving to the park. Every child was talking and asking questions. Each little voice was like a sharp stick to the ear.
“Baybee, I jusst want them to stop tall-keen,” I said in Ukranian to Torey, “and I do not have PMS anymore so I am worrying theet I am seempully a beach.”
Happy New Year!
Dictation
Yesterday Eden handed me her new Hello Kitty notebook and pen and began to dictate a letter.
“Dear Cousins:
You’re so sweet. I know you tickle me a lot so sweet. Baby Jesus was born in da stable.”
And then she dashed away.
Later she again thrust the notebook and pen at me.
“Dear Cousins and Friends:
I wish you could be nice and love and not googly monsters and I love you very much and I want you to have a nice vacation. That smelling yummy thing in the microwave is food. Lots of cousins of mine have to be on my birthday.”
As I was scribbling this second missive I wondered why she thought I was her personal Girl Friday. And then I remembered that I have been recording her wit and wisdom since she could string two words together. If I had someone following me around with a notebook I would put her to work too.
