I like miniature houses. This is an advent calendar that you fill with candy. I would have died of happiness to have had this as a kid. Although I bought it in time to start on the 1st, I didn’t get around to putting it together until tonight. Sue me.
Eden helped me and we had a really good time. She was got crazy with the glue although she was trying very hard to be careful. “I’m so sorry!” she said the first time she got out of control, “I put it on a little thick, didn’t I?” I was able to assure her that it was no big deal, just an accident and those happen some times. And then I helped her wipe up the excess glue. We had a lot of fun.
After she went to bed I pulled out the candy and filled the openings. Paul helped…himself.
The homeschoolers will be dividing by three every morning. Any remainder goes to me.
Setting it up I realized that it bears a resemblance to our home, except for the shutters and the fact that it’s cute and full of candy.

Hello. I am a friend of Nathan’s, and have checked in to your blog on and off for a couple of months now. I know, silly me for not announcing myself sooner, but the advent calendar house did it for me. I am so glad that mine is not the only family who participates in this tradition. And I must say, kudos on the house. That is above and beyond the call of advent calendar duty. Your children are lucky to have such a gung ho mother as yourself!

Oh Samantha! I am soooo not a gung ho mother unless we’re talking books or chocolate.
Thanks for checking in.
How do you know Nathan?
Samantha says
Hmmm. Gung ho applies to any and ALL extra curricular activities. From what I can tell, all of your children’s activities are extra curricular to YOU, so I will continue to consider you gung ho…Keep up the good work and consider it a great compliment from someone who has a mother of equal standing!!
I have known Nathan for a couple of years. He had taken a spanish course with a former roommate of mine, and a group of them were constantly rehearsing goofy class projects at my place. I am his guru for foreign media input at this point – French, Spanish and otherwise.

this is one of the neatest advent calendars that i have seen. i thought you guys made it from scratch to look like your house. where did you find it?
alison says
Ali, I got it from the Martha Stewart craft collection at Michael’s. I went in for a little paper village I had seen online, but found this, which was even better as it was a calendar.
I am going to keep an eye on the Martha Stewart craft kits, since the kids love making things and I do too if they are pleasing and purposeful.
