I awoke around five this morning to the sound of something rubbing against glass. When I was fully conscious I only heard the rain and assumed I had imagined the other. And then began the scratching and whacking of some THING at the window. I shook Paul awake.
“What’s that?”
“I don’t know!”
We both crept to the window and pulled back the shade. A cat sized creature was prowling on the window sill. When its enormous tail came into view I whispered, “Is that a raccoon?”
It was. At that moment it leapt into the shrubs below and slunk across the grass back towards the woods that are behind our house.
Lying back in bed I told Paul. “I don’t know what I would have done if you hadn’t been here!”
“Then it’s a good thing I was, so you could think about what you could have done if you had been alone.”
Thus far I have come up with:
Wet self and hide under blankets
or
Run shrieking to call 911
I just don’t see myself pulling up the shade in any scenario.
Suggestions?

I like,
“wet self and hide under blankets.”

I’m glad you do – it was my first response.

How about this: take phone with you as you hide under the blankets, pray for five minutes, then call 911. When my hubby is gone, I sleep with the house phone and the cell phone right next to my pillow 🙂

I would go get my camera!

Sheila,
Must remember to keep cell phone by me. Our cordless phone needs a new battery. It can go off the base not much more than 1/2 an hour. I don’t even want to tell you how long this has been the case. The battery is not terribly old and was a replacement. I think we need a new phone. I tend to put off purchases that will require thought.
Julia,
If you didn’t know what it was would you still run for your camera? Truly?

Freaky. We had a rabid raccoon follow us home and try to get into our house when I was a kid. Gave me the heebie-jeebies for years.
