Oh Brother(s and Sisters) Where Art Thou?

November 8, 2005 by Alison Hodgson 6 Comments

Where is the love?

I post about my little boy (Did I mention he’s deaf?) and tell you about his visual impairment and my concerns therein, but does my cyber community rally around me in my time of need?

No.

All I’m hearing is crickets.

True, that is a very peaceful sound if they are real, but metaphorical crickets rub a mournful dirge.

………………………………

The father says, “I think he looks cute and I’m not just saying that because I read your post.”

I think he looks cute too, like a cute kid in slightly old ladyish glasses.

I think he looks hip and cute.

I remember my mom buying me a pair of girls’ shoes. She lied and told me they were boys’ shoes. It worked for a while. So be encouraged.

No worries for him he KNOWS he is a hipster.

And I am almost 80& certain that he is too.

He looks great, don’t you worry. My Sally started putting her bangs into a little ponytail, which she calls the Front Pony. I think she looks terrible, but Stuart just loves it, says she’s a trendsetter, she looks awesome. Funny thing is, everyone else thinks so, too. I’m the only one with visions of teasing cruel schoolmates.

Also, whenever I get new glasses, I hate them for about a week, then I like them just fine. I think my brain just needs time to adjust to the new image of me. Maybe that’s the same with you. So hang in there – we love you, and your boy doesn’t look like an old lady. 🙂

I’m sure he looks ultra-cool. You can tell him for me that I went through a time as a teenager that I wanted glasses because I thought they looked so cool, so refined and distinguished. I was actually a little frustrated with my old 20/20 vision. I almost broke down and bought some non-prescription vanity glasses, but then didn’t. I will need them eventually, I’m sure of it. Perhaps sooner than I’d like to think.

Frankly, he’s so stinkin’ cool that I am a bit intimidated by him (and quite a bit scared of his mama!) After all, I am NOT a hipster and can only hope one day to be as cool as ‘the dude.’

Thank you everyone who yielded to my pathetic beggery.

Scott – I probably saw you in girl shoes and never saw it. 🙂

    Sheila,

Cringing with you at the described hairstyle. Good for Stu.

    Sherry,

I am so with you. I don’t want my eyesight to go…but if it does I am going to look sweet!

    KMJ,

Put down the crack pipe, Sister. I know you don’t have heat and have been breathing drywall dust for months but that comment was crazy talk.

    You have NOTHING to fear.
